Possible AAC Solutions for people living with MND
MND does not affect each person in the same way. In some cases, such as with Bulbar MND, speech is affected early in the progression, while motor control of hands and feet are affected later. With other individuals, motor control is affected first, and speech is affected later. The following provides a guide for which speech device may be appropriate solutions given each individual’s condition. Please consult an SLT knowledgeable in AAC solutions as to which device is the most appropriate for you.
DynaVox V or Vmax The complete communication solution for the full range of MND needs The V and Vmax are powerful speech generating devices that also give you the full range of capabilities of a computer, including email, internet, environmental control and Bluetooth® capabilities. The communication software promotes rapid communication in any setting. The V and Vmax offer the widest range of access methods in the industry, permitting you to continue to communicate with the same device even as your access requirements change. |
DynaVox EyeMax Allows communication with eye control The EyeMax comprised of a Vmax communication device and the EyeMax accessory, allows individuals to communicate using eye movement after motor control is lost. With the EyeMax users can access and make selections on their Vmax device simply by blinking or dwelling on the desired area of the screen. For most, the EyeMax is considerably faster than alternative access methods such as switch scanning. |
DynaWrite Type and Speak The DynaVox DynaWrite allows for fast, efficient communication with a familiar interface. Keyboard-based, it is ideal for those who have strong motor control, particularly in the early stages of MND. DynaWrite devices are available for purchase as well as rental for those who may prefer to conserve their insurance funding for a Vmax or EyeMax as the condition progresses. |
